Straight answers, no snobbery
Eight reasons
to say no
Every objection we hear across the counter, answered in one place — price, freshness, grind, shipping, subscriptions, sourcing and returns. If we can't justify it, we don't do it.
The objections
The eight things you're thinking
"€9,50 for 250g? Isn't that just expensive coffee?"
It's more than the supermarket — and less than a single takeaway latte per week. A 250g bag makes around 16 double espressos, so a €9,50 bag works out at roughly €0,60 a cup.
The difference goes into specialty-grade green coffee, small-batch roasting, and paying the people who grow it above market rate. We publish what we pay and what each cup costs to make — see the full breakdown on the homepage.
"How do I know it's actually fresh?"
Every bag is printed with its roast date, not a vague best-before. We roast on Mondays and Tuesdays and ship the same week, never from a warehouse that's been sitting for months.
Coffee is at its best from about 4 days to 6 weeks after roasting for filter, and 5 days to 8 weeks for espresso. If a bag ever arrives older than you expected, tell us and we'll replace it.
"Which grind should I order — and what if I get it wrong?"
Choose whole bean if you have any grinder at home — it stays fresh far longer and lets you dial in. Choose one of our pre-ground options for espresso, filter (V60/batch), moka pot or French press. Grinding is free on every order.
Not sure? Pick whole bean and a brew method at checkout, and we'll grind to match. If you've already opened a pre-ground bag and got it wrong, mail us and we'll swap the grind free.
"I don't know how to brew it — will I just ruin it?"
You can't really ruin it, but you can make it better. Every bag ships with a simple recipe card: grams in, grams out, water temperature and time. No scales obsession required to get a good cup.
Prefer a shortcut? Our drip bags need nothing but hot water, and our bars run free brew classes every month — bring a friend. Sign up via the contact page.
"What does shipping cost, and how long will it take?"
Free shipping in Belgium over €35. Below that it's a flat €4,95. Orders leave the roastery every Tuesday and typically land in 1–3 working days within Belgium, 3–6 across the rest of the EU.
We ship to EU addresses only for now, so customs never surprises you. Tracking is emailed the moment your box leaves the building. Full rates live on the contact page.
"Am I locked into a subscription?"
No contract, no minimum term. Choose your frequency and bag size when you subscribe, then skip, pause, change beans or cancel any time before your next roast day — in two clicks, no phone call.
Subscribers get 10% off every order plus first access to limited micro-lots. If you just want to try it once, order a single bag instead — everything on the shop works without a subscription.
"Is 'direct trade' real, or just marketing?"
It's real and it's traceable. We buy green coffee directly from producers across Colombia, Ethiopia, Brazil and Guatemala, pay above the market rate, and visit the farms we buy from. You'll find the farm and the producer named on the bag.
We publish our prices relative to the commodity market every year, because a promise you can't check isn't worth much. Read the sourcing story on the homepage.
"What if I don't like it?"
Then we make it right. If a coffee isn't for you, tell us within 14 days and we'll swap it for something you'll enjoy or refund the bag — even if it's open. No forms, no interrogation.
Damaged or missing in transit? Send a photo and we'll reship the same day. Reach us through the contact page or at hello@caffenation.be.
